Y2K Thailand
Y2K Thailand FAQ

Is the millennium bug a serious problem for Thailand?

No. Thailand is less affected by Y2K then many countries because:
  1. Many organizations have already remediated the Y2K problems. Thai Government and private sector are aware of the seriousness of the problems and initiated Y2K projects two years ago. Everyone know about it and talk about it.

  2. Most operations are still manual. Automation is just starting in large oganizations and administrators are advised to implement Y2K compliant systems.

  3. All official documents have to use Buddhist calendar dates (i.e. Year 1999 is 2542 in Buddhist era). Therefor, only a few programs and databases must be changed. These are mostly the documents using two digit Christian era.

  4. Several Thai engineers have invented Y2K cards two years ago and they have campaigned widely to the public to adopt their cards.
