Finally
one of the dates which was thought to cause serious navigation
problems has passed unevently. The problems expect as
a result of the week roll-over in the Global Positioning
System or GPS do not occur.
On August 16th 1999, two representatives from the Asian
Development Bank, Mr. Chris Thomas and Mr. Kristian Laursen
visited the National Y2K Center to exchange views and
information with Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakul and Dr. Kanchit
Malaivongs. Mr. Thomas and Mr. Lausen were on the trip
to find out about the Y2K readiness of Asian countries.
Both were impressed by the progress of Y2K remediation
in the Supercritical Organizations in Thailand.
On August 5th 1999, in the presence of the Deputy Prime
Minister Dr. Trairong Suwankiri and the directors of NECTEC
and NSTDA. EGAT performed a successful year 2000 roll
over date simulation at the control center at the Bangpakong
Power Plant.
On July 30th, 1999, NECTEC organized a seminar and a
discussion on "Clarification of Y2K Problems in Personal
Computers" at the Mahissorn Conference Hall, in the Siam
Commercial Bank headquarter building. The purpose was
to provide information on Y2K related problems, how to
examine the PC and the right methods to solve the problems
identified.
On July 25th, 1999, Dr. Arthit Urairat, Minister of Science,
Technology and the Environment and vice president of the
Y2K Remediation Coordination Committee, presided the Siam
Commercial Bank ceremony at the Siam Commercial Bank headquarter,
Ratchayothin, in which the bank declared their Y2K Readiness.
The Stock Exchange
of Thailand (SET) declared it systems to be 100% Y2K Ready

On May 19th, 1999, there was a meeting with Mr. Yoshikai,
the Japanese National Y2K Coordinator, at the NSTDA Bldg.
to exchange opinions about Y2K remediation in the Supercritical
Organization. These organizations are: the Electricity
Generating Authority of Thailand; the Petrolium Authority
of Thailand; the Telephone Authority of Thailand; the
Communication Authority of Thailand; the Bank of Thailand;
and the Thai Bank Association.
Deputy Prime Minister Suwit Khunkitti inspected two "Supercritical
Organizations" to check up on their Y2K remediation
progress. Both Thai Airways International Co. (Public)
and the Petroleum Authority of Thailand presented their
work in progress, target schedules, contingency plans
and business-chain continuity tests. The progresses was
considered satisfactory with full declaration of compliant
scheduled around June 1999.
