NECTEC organized a seminar: "Preparing for Y2K Remediation
at the Provincial Level" to inform the Provincial Governor
and related organizations about the problems and impact of Y2K,
the policies and the progress of Y2K remediation in Thailand
and how to prepare a plan for dealing with Y2K problems at the
provincial level. Altogether 437 Provincial Governors and Chiefs
of Government Organization attended the seminar. |

Ministry of Foreign Affairs with support from the US government
and instructors from KPMG Consultants organized the "Year
2000 Cross-Border Contingency Planning Workshop", which
included a presentation on "Setting up a Contingency Plan".
Representatives of NECTEC and the different organizations which
are members of the Y2K Remediation Sub-Committee attended this
workshop and seminar which was being held in the Royal Orchid
Sheraton Hotel. |

First Meeting of the Y2K Supercritical System Subcommittee.
Four supercritical groups were identified: the Financial, Banking,
and Insurance Group; the Telecomunications and the Transportation
Group; Energy Group; and the Social Order Group. Each group
was encouraged to speed up their remediation activity and public
annoucement of Y2K readiness. |

The
National Electronics and Computer Technology Center, the Ministry
of Public Health and the British Council (Thailand) jointly
held a technical seminar "Y2K Contingency Planning for the Medical
Sector: Sharing the British Experience" at the NSTDA and the
NECTEC, Gypsum Metropolitan Bldg. The seminar's objective was
to suggest the appropriate methodology to develop contingency
planning for medical systems and equipment, and to exchange
knowledge and experiences between the British and Thai experts.
Altogether 85 participants from public and private hospitals
attended the seminar. |

Mr. Suwit Khunkitti, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science,
Technology, and the Environment, and Chairman of the National
Y2K Coordinating Committee, attended a joint presentation on
Y2K remediation by the Airport Authority of Thailand; the Aeronautical
Radio of Thailand; the Department of Aviation; the Customs Department;
the Office of the Immigration; and the Office of the Nacotics
Control Board. |
